[ August 29, 2017 ] Jammu: Ten months ahead of his term ending, Jammu and Kashmir Governor Narinder Nath Vohra is likely to resign from his post. News agency reported that the development could take place as early as this week, even today.Narinder Nath Vohra (retired) IAS is the current and 12th Governor of the State of Jammu and Kashmir. He took over from S. K. Sinha on June 25, 2008. He is the first civilian Governor of Jammu and Kashmir in 18 years after Jagmohan.Since February 2003 until he became the governor, Vohra had been the Indian government’s interlocutor in Kashmir. As such he had been holding wide-ranging discussions with both the elected representatives in the state and also the resistance leaders in a bid to forge a common ground for the all-round development of the state. This follows speculation, in July this year, that he was seeking to retire. However, the Home Ministry denied reports saying they received no such letter from the Governor’s office. It has been known that the Centre has been scouting for a replacement for several months.Vohra had earlier served as Union Home Secretary as well as Defence Secretary. He also served as as Principal Secretary to Prime Minister IK Gujral between 1997-98. Vohra, 81, is also a recipient of the Padma Vibushan.
