Denigration of NIA uncalled for, must avoid

[ September 08, 2017 ] Criticism of National Investigation Agency (NIA) by Hurriyat leaders for summoning and raiding their houses and offices reflects Hurriyat’s frustration. During NIA’s raids and search operations some objectionable substances were seized, however authorities also arrested and lodged the top Hurriyat leaders. The level of the frustration of the Hurriyat leaders are so high that they dared the agency to arrest them—Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Yaseen Malik, onSeptember 9, when they plan to hold protest outside the NIA’s headquarters in New Delhi . Hurriyat’s plan to hold protest outside the NIA’s headquarters in New Delhi is only because to get the publicity through media houses because now a days they were treated as criminals rather than the leaders of the Kashmiris. On Wednesday NIA conducted several raids at the houses of businessmen in Srinagar and New Delhi. The businessmen mostly dealing with the cross LoC barter trade—a confidence building measure between India and Pakistan, which is under scanner of different investigating agencies for many years now. NIA confirmed that the raids were conducted at 20 locations in Srinagar seven locations in New Delhi during which around Rs 2.20crore and other documents were seized. The agency would also question some of the businessmen, whose bank statements and travels to UAE are being scrutinized. NIA is investigating a case it registered on 30 May, this year in alleged hawala funding. NIA also questioned J&K High Court Bar Association president Mian Abdul Qayoom in New Delhi on Wednesday. Two Kashmiris Kamran Yousuf, a freelance photographer from Pulwama and Javaid Ahmad Bhat from Kulgam arrested earlier for their alleged involvement in stone pelting, have been sent to ten days custody of NIA in New Delhi. NIA has arrested nine people including Hurriyat leaders, Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saifullah, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Mehraj ud Din Kalwal, Nayeem Khan, Shahid ul Islam, Farooq Dar and a prominent businessman Zahoor Watali. Shabir Ahmed Shah was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate is also lodged in a jail.
