Stone pelters playing with fire

[ April 19, 2017 ] Earlier, stone-pelters used to only hurl stones at forces on policing duties. Since last year, especially after the killing of Hizb commander Burhan Wani , these elements try to break the security cordon and attack personnel engaged in a gunbattle. The distraction gives terrorists a chance to attack and flee. Now, it becomes difficult for the Army to engage terrorists as they seek cover in villages and towns. To avoid civilian casualties, soldiers fire cautiously. In fact, terrorists who hide in houses and use civilians as human shields ambush soldiers during combing operations, leading to higher casualties. The trend of stone-pelters disrupting operations adds to the terrorists" advantage. The fresh set of rules has been circulated to Army, central paramilitary forces like the CRPF, the J&K government and police. There was a video in Beerwah area of Budgam district where miscreants disrupted polling during Sunday"s bypoll to Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency by pelting stones. It is being widely shared on social networks in Jammu and Kashmir. A video which was also twitted by former chief minister Omar Abdullah in which a youth was tied to an army jeep as a human shield against stone pelting has gone viral on social media .The stone pelting incidents became prominent in Kashmir from the 2008 Kashmir Unrest in which the movement was completely changed from gun fighting with forces to the pelting of stones on forces. Recently, Farooq Abdullah in its election meeting in Sonawar constituency considered stone pelters as nationalists, who are pelting stones for his nation . These types of statements by the senior leaders only for the sake of politics , encouraging stone pelters in Kashmir .Those who pelting stones are young and educated enough to choose between right or wrong . Sadly, stone pelters are choosing the wrong direction, in which they gets support from their families also.Kashmiri youth are in a rage to insult the Army force. In recent incidents of the Kashmiri young bloods attacking the Indian Army with stones, which not only degrades the self-esteem of Army personnel but also degrades the respect of the state. This is the generation of "stone-pelters", for whom the stone has replaced the AK-47s. Before stones, AK 47s were widely used by the mis guided youth of the valley and when Indian government controlled militancy and AK 47s in Kashmir , the youth took stones as the weapon ,which they are using against the armed forces and the police. It is the youth of any nation on whose shoulders nations power and glory touches the sky , but what happen if that educated youth works against the nation ? Its not only stone pelting its like a waging war against the State .
